Choosing to publish with Arc Humanities Press alongside Amsterdam University Press is a choice for scholarly excellence and a global presence. Arc supports and stimulates scholarship by working closely with scholars to produce outstanding academic publications, in print as well as digitally. Our processes mirror exactly those of Amsterdam University Press, our European consortium partner.
Our authorship base is truly global: one-third from the USA, one-third from other English-speaking countries (primarily the UK, Australia, and Canada), and one-third from continental Europe (Iceland to Moldova, Portugal to Estonia), Turkey and the Middle East, and Latin America.
Each volume is evaluated by an international editorial board or appointed experts, supplemented by peer-reviews undertaken by the board and an independent expert appointed by the press. Further, an overarching learned society committee (CARMEN’s Publications Committee) ensures that appropriate quality-control mechanisms are in place and followed.
Arc publishes scholarly books and handbooks (periodicals, monographs, thematic essay collections and reference works), short-form monographs, and classroom textbooks for tertiary education. Fiction, children’s books, cookery books, autobiographies and devotional writings all fall outside our scope.
Arc publications are sold and distributed across Europe, North America and Australasia; also in Asia and Latin America. By partnering with ISD for North America, Amsterdam University Press for the rest of the world (particularly Europe, Australasia, and East Asia), supplemented by agents elsewhere, Arc has a marketing and distribution network that covers the entire international academic market.
